Description

Black Hills State University located in beautiful Spearfish, SD is pleased to host the Women's Collegiate Triathlon West Regional Qualifier and Club Invitiational at Rocky Point Recreation Area, Belle Fourche Reservoir.  

Located 20 miles from the city of Spearfish, Belle Fourche Reservoir is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The venue is used for multiple sporting activities, including road races, triathlons, archery, water activities and winter sports.  The reservoir has 8,040 water surface acres, 6,694 land acres and 58 miles of shorline.

Average air temperatures in September are a high of 78 and low of 49 degrees.  The fresh water reservoir averages 70-74 degrees throughout the month of September.

Race Location

All race activities on September 15th will take place at Rocky Point Recreation Area. The mandatory athletes meeting will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14th at 5pm at Black Hills State University Donald Young Center, room #214.

Parking

On race day, parking attendants will direct vehicles to the low water boat ramp parking area starting at 6:00am. There will be no parking available at the East boat ramp where the transition area and expo will be set up.

It is highly recommended that spectators arrive at the park prior to the 8:00am closure of roads. Spectators arriving after 8:00am will be directed to offsite parking and shuttled in by golf cart. There is no guarantee that individuals parking offsite will be shuttled into the park in time to watch the race start.

Course Preview

Saturday, Sept. 14th  ROCKY POINT RECREATION AREA

 Rocky Point Recreation Area has graciously offered the use of their beautiful venue for our event, please note that this park is an active fishing area. On Saturday there will be park visitors driving vehicles and watercraft. Please take caution while previewing the course and adhere to the rules of the road.

Athletes and spectators visiting the park outside designated course preview times will be expected to pay a $6 park entry fee and will swim, bike, or run at their own risk.

Swim Course Information

750M counterclockwise loop (1 lap)

Water temperature 72 degrees as of 8/29/2019

Deep water Start

Boat ramp will be carpeted at the swim exit for smooth run to T1

Bike Course Information

20K bike course (4 laps)

Lap out rule in effect

Athletes take a right onto main road and immediately begin their first lap with a small loop though the campground and exit out onto the straight away of the main road. The far turn around will be located at the information booth at the entrance to the campground. At end of the fourth lap athletes make a 90 degree right turn into transition area.

Run Course Information

5K run course (2 laps out and back)

Water station at the turn around, athletes will hit it twice during the 5K run.

Athletes take a right out of transition onto the main road, run through the campground loop, and upon exiting the loop take another right turn to begin the first of two out & back laps. At the conclusion of the first lap, athletes will run through the campground loop again and take the right turn to begin their second lap. At the end of the second lap, athletes take a right onto the main road then a left hand turn into the finish area, which is located in the same lot as transition.
